Restaurant école
Fresh food for your children every day

Francois appears on GMTV's morning programme
0825, 2 March 2005

- The interview coincided with extensive news coverage on the state of the food
served in Britain's schools, which was so well highlighted by Jamie Oliver in "Jamie's School
Dinners".
- GMTV were alerted by press articles on the work carried out in a London Primary school
and were keen to find out more now that the project was being rolled out to other schools interested
in fresh food.
- A reporter came to visit the school and interviewed the children: their story was so
impressive that GMTV decided to do a live piece from school the following morning. Richard
Gainsley was despatched to the school whilst Francois Nouaillat went into the GMTV studios
to talk to Fiona Phillips and Eamonn Holmes about the philosophy behind a 100% pure
meat sausage and the famous Francois custard.
- During the interview, some 8 million viewers learned that the issue is not only what you
cook, but how you cook it. Quality = fresh food: this is the key to healthy children.
"If you see yellow custard, be afraid, be very afraid!"
- Eamonn asked "Do the children eat the food?".
Francois responded: "Yes, because
the right food is offered after consultation with the Headteacher. At Osidge, Mr Kent
has 440 children, and he knows them better than I ever will."
Eamonn: "Is it down to cost,
budget and accountants running the schools and can Quality, Health and Value, go
together?"
Francois: "Eamonn, would you go back to a restaurant if the food was bad?"
Eamonn: "I'm with you all the way, mate"
Francois further explained that as the food was much better, this attracted more
customers, and therefore generated more income.
- Fiona was very impressed by the free range sausage made of 100% pure
meat, and the white custard. This was followed by Francois' custard and a tasting session
by both TV presenters, along with a warning: "If you see yellow
custard, be afraid, be very afraid!" Both Fiona and Eamonn were told about the secret
ingredient - "the Orange" - to ensure children will enjoy it.
- The piece concluded with both Fiona and Eamonn calling for Restaurant école's philosophy
to be made compulsory for all schools.
